Breeding Bettas: Day One
1:20 PM Today, we introduced our betta splendens. We put the female in a glass mason jar, leaving the lid just resting on top, and placed her gently inside his tank. As soon as the two were introduced, they began displaying their fins and flaunting themselves off. Both were completely outstretched: gills and fins to the maximum. The male circled her jar constantly, never leaving her side. From inside her jar, the female shows large amounts of aggression, ramming into the glass, at him.
4:00 PM ~ish~ He began building his bubble nest, under a pennywort leaf. Both seem a little more relaxed, but when the male makes a movement, the female follows.
We attempted to offer a ring of plastic, for his bubble nest, but he politely declined.
A filter was running, but the water was erratic and there was not stable position for the bubble nest to be protected. Our water temperature is about seventy-five degrees.
