im going to try to seriously pay attention to my semi planted tank and make it a fully planted tank . lm looking for some new lights to start out. does anyone have an opinion on this light system, or some ho-t5 lighting? http://www.drsfostersmith.com/product/prod_display.cfm?c=3578+3733+13733&pcatid=13733

my tank is a standard 55. with some convicts and some apistos

i also own a 125 gal and wouldnt mind having parts i can us on this set up at a different time.

i have no personal experience with that light.

On a different note, i purchased a refurbished Nova Extreme 4x39 watt fixture for my 46 planted and love it. I am running two 6700k bulbs for now, and then 2x6700k and 2x10000k once i get pressurized co2. Its an excellent fixture. Simple, sleek, and effective. I mention that its refurbished, because i bought it off ebay (through current usa), and paid 130 total (with shipping), instead of 225+ for a new one. Just another option

The actinic lights are a waste for plants, so you would want to go with the FW one (obviously).

4x65 watts gives you a total of 260 watts over 55 gallons...thats over 4 wpg. Overkill even with CO2 and ferts...IMHO. And with that price? Heck no.

I've yet to buy lighting for a planted 55 so I do not exactly know what is the "economical" choice for that size. I'm positive that someone else will pop in though.

I am currently running a single 96 watt bulb along with a t-8 fixture on my 58.
If I were to change out it would be with a t-5, the CFL generates a lot of heat and the color varieties are somewhat small. Good luck.
