We have a frontosa that is probably about 4/12-5 years of age. I was wondering what the average life span is for these guys? He is a real mellow fish, just kind of coasts through the water, minding his own business, except when he comes across other fish fighting. He seems to always get in the middle and break it up, then he just keeps on going. He is in a 100 gal. with other assorted africans. I never have any problems with him and other fish, of course he is so big, who's gonna get in his way?!?

It looks like you have in that tank an interesting mix of Africans. What do you have in there, exactly?

You would not believe what I have in that tank!! :D I started out with centrals, and then I changed to Africans, about 5 years ago. I had a stragler, a convict who outlived the rest of the centrals, and is still living in that tank, along with the frontosa, and auratuses, keneyis, cocolofis, ansd a couple of different varieties of zebras. The frontosa is a fish that my son-in-law gave me when they moved. I know, you can say it, I must be :screwy:, right? Oh well, it has been working, for years, at least so far. The most problems I have, is between the 2 male auratuses. One stays on one side of the tank, and the other stays to the other side. If they happen to get to close to each other, they start circling around each other and then they start fighting, until someone breaks it up.

Frontosa's are known to live for 25 years one of the longer living fish.. so take good care of him and he should live for 20 more years or so..

Nice front...

That nuchal hump is one the most pronounced I've ever seen.

Nice Burundi male you got there.

Your assorted Africans have nipped his fins down pretty good. In a species only tank he could have some really nice long trailers on four of his fins. He is also showing his stress bar.
