Noticed this yesterday in my 55G community tank. He acts OK and is eating well.

I put him in a 10G hospital tank with 2 TBS salt and am medicating with Kanamycin. He was still his cantankerous self when I took him out. ;)

I had a Sunset Gourami that had a lesion on his gill a few months ago, and he died a few weeks later. This 'hole' looks different from that, however.

So what do you think - Iridovirus, TB, fungal? Any advice appreciated on treatment!

I would probably quarantine him just in case and keep his water REALLY clean. I wouldn't add any medications unless the wound does not start to heal or gets worse. Keep a close eye out for more sores or any bloating or color change as that is a sure indicator of bacterial infection or Dwarf Gourami Disease, both or which are very serious. The fact that you had a Sunset Gourami with a gill lesion and death worries me a little, but I can't really see any signs of disease right now.

Just keep his water clean and see how it goes.

Well, something caused that 'hole'. I have a couple Pim cats in there, but don't think that they could have done that. Has to be an affliction of some kind to have caused that?

No one else has a clue what this may be or how to treat - or if even necessary to treat? :irked:

I would really just keep the water clean. If it starts to look infected or gets worse you could try treating him with some Maracyn, which I have had success with in treating infections and bad fin rot.

Thanks. I have kept the water pristine in the hospital tank, but the hole remains. It is not getting worse, but no better either.

The hole is getting a bit larger. Kanamycin and Mayacyn 1/2 have had no effect. Potassium Permanganate and Methylene Blue have had no effect. No other opinions?
