I have a pentagon corner tank that is roughly 46 gal. I was wondering, since corys are bottom dwellers and my tank is taller than it is longer, if there was a general rule or consensus about how many corys to have in a certain area of the bottom of your tank...

In case anybody was wondering the area of the bottom of the tank.....

Sorry for the kindergarten art project...

that's a pretty good sized tank. Never heard of a footprint/territory requirement. Maybe only tank size requirements. 44 gallons is pretty good sized, and you don't have any other bottom dwellers from what your signature says. What I think is more important is the size of the cory group. From my experience, corys should be in groups of at least 6. The more corys, the more activity they show.

I don't have a formula really. It looks like roughly the bottom area of a 20 gallon long, so I figure there is room for about 8 cories if you want that many.

Sounds like a good number...

depends upon the type of cories you want to stock.

Really? Why would that make a differnce?

Wow, I think 8 is a little too much, I think I'll go with 6...

Thanks for the input guys!:bowing:

BTW, would it be okay to house shrimp in my tank also? (Judging by my current inhabitants and maybe 6 cories)

It makes a difference because of the size of the cories, habrosus versus aeneus for instance.

Oh ok, well 6 seems like a good number. Ill have to get some more plants and maybe a couple caves and hiding spots then....

The angel may just make a snack out of them.

What if I make sure to get some that are big enough not to be eaten?
