what do i need in order to install 6x9s? the car is currently outfitted to with brakets for 5x7s (i removed the speakers). but no there is no way to mount the 6x9s as far as im concerned. what do i need to mount them?

What car do you have and where are you trying to put the speakers?

If it was the other way around and you were trying to fit a speaker into a larger hole then you could make a bracket. If you need to fit a big speaker into a small hole you would need to make the whole (usually made of metal) bigger.... not recommended.

Why not make a couple riser plates from MDF? If you find some material thick enough (without going to thick - half or three-quarter inch should do it), you should be able to raise the speakers sufficiently that they don't contact the existing holes... Saves cutting up your car, and if you get real tricky, you could use the existing screw holes to mount the riser, then screw the 6x9's onto the riser... Has worked for me more than once.

www.caraudio.com - This site has gone downhill considerably, but I am sure you could find some help here in the installation or speaker section.

yes that site has gone down hill and even reached the depths of hell. A bunch of kids with attitudes and most have little knowledge.

As for the 6x9s in the 5x7 holes, is this a Toyota? Are you trying to put them in a rear deck or doors. If a rear deck I would say open the holes up for the 6x9s. If you are talking doors, first you need to know if the doors are deep enough and not hit the window as the glass is raised & lowered.

This was already answered in your previous thread. Use a little ingenuity and develop what you need. Your best bet is a backer plate of some sort to raise the speaker out of the hole.

they make adaptors for 6x9 to fit in 5x7 mounting holes .. im not sure were they can be found tho i used to have some..they was made of plastic and held the speaker into the hole and at an upward angle

ill have to try and find some of these. the car is an old 88 taurus for those wondering. the 6x9s are going on the rear deck behind the back seats. the doors are gonna have 6s in them, so ill have to find a way to mount them.
