I would try something that works wonders for Koi and goldfish.....Tri-cide Neo. then follow up with some medicated food with tetracycline. PP is only for experts that know how to measure in PPM, great stuff in the hands of experts, deadly in the hands of novices.

There is no reason why this would not work on a convict

I would suggest going with the spray on method first. melafix is junk........

Thanks for the info and link. I'll keep that stuff in mind should the Con not continue to improve or stall. It looks very promising from what I've read about it from multiple sources.

I've used Jungle Clear Water (PP) for baths in the past at 3x normal dose, but would be unsure at what strength to use if I were to apply it topically for a problem such as this one.

I'm putting the melafix/pimafix combo in there mostly because of it's healing properties, not because of it minute antibacterial effects.

Update - Turning the corner?

White crap on tail is just about gone - finally! I got sick of the last bit of it so I decided to 'paint' it off with some PP. One treatment only!

Continuing with the mela/pima/salt and 25% WC every two days. Also feeding Kanamycin laced food for a couple more days.

I see a little growth from the tail, too. Hopefully this continues. What a PITA!

For those that may have this prob at some point:

I didn't get good results until I fed the fish Kanamycin laced pellets and topically applied a ~3% solution of Potassium Permanganate solution on the tail.

The Maracyn 1, Maracyn 2, Jungle Fungus Eliminator, topical Bacitracin, and MelaFix/Pimafix did little to nothing for this.

I'll update again should anything change.

Forgot to mention:

I dissolved 300mg Kanamycin in 2 TBSP warm dechlorinated water and then added about 1 or 2 TBSP small food pellets - just enough to soak up all the liquid (sorry I didn't weigh this). I fed this to the fish twice daily - about as much as I would normally feed them each feeding. He gobbled it up. I fed nothing else during this time. I'm on day 8, but the fish should be fed this anywhere from 7-10 days.

If no results are seen, feed at least 5 days before stopping meds to avoid increasing bacterial resistance.
