Hello

my relatives went out of town and they dumped their turtle/tortise/terrapin
with me from monday till the end of the week.

i have 2 fish tanks but i know NOTHING about turtle/tortise/terrapins.

i have 2 pics but its not of great quality. please bear with it.

used my QT tank and added a little water, and a rock from my cichlid tank so that the turtle/tortise/terrapin can rest on it after swimming.

the turtle/tortise/terrapin also has what looks like fungus (on a fish) under its chin. Im pretty sure the living conditions were not good. and im pretty pissed.

can any1 hepl with ID and possible disease diagnosis?

thanks

oh yea.. the pics

:iagree:

Yes, that's a red-eared slider. It could have fungus or it could be shedding pieces of it's skin. Yes, turtles do shed their skin just like lizards and snakes but not to the same degree.

im afriad with a camera like that (Cell phone camera) pictures of the fungus will not help.. haha

how to confirm that it is fungus indeed?

can i add pima and melax fix from API into the water that it swims in?

thanks

:iagree:this could help identify: is the "fungus" sorta transparent and floppy?

No, that will do nothing for a turtle. If it is indeed fungus you want to let the turtle dry out. It does have the ability to leave the water to bask and dry off completely, right? Lots of cases of turtles getting fungus is because they don't have a basking place or any place to exit the water.

yes i placed a rock from my malawi tank so that it can bask. but everytime i check on it.. its in the water. should i remove all the water?

and the fungus.. looks like ... it looks like when a fish has fungus... haha

do u have basking/heat lamps or reptile heat pads of some sort? a lid? whats the temp? and the water:land area ratio

i dont lamps or anything.. this terrapin will return to its owner (my relative) at the end of this week.. i trying to see if i can cure any possible disease it has and convince the owner to provide a better environment for it to live it.

what does the land and water ratio has to be anyways?

any1 has a very good link/website so i can read up on it?
