If your new leaf has roots you can trim and replant and get a new plant you don't need the bulb ( it will develop later as the new plant matures)

If there are no roots just long leaves seeking the surface of the water cutting them off will encourage the shorter more compact growth habit.

I have several of these plants and I let some of them send out long leaves and some I trim just for aesthetics. Either way I love the colors and textural contrast they add to the tank.
