I have a 125G (long) moderately planted, low-tech aquarium. The aquarium is relatively successful and I'm not experiencing any algae problems. I have two Rena XP3 filters hooked up to it.

My wife has been listening to me for the past few months and bought me a Milwaukee CO2 regulator package that includes the regulator, solenoid valve, bubble counter, and needle valve for Christmas (yay!). So I've spent the last couple of days trying to figure out how to install this thing.

I'm looking at ordering the Aqua-Medic Co2 Reactor 1000 from an online store. From what I understand this can be hooked up in-line with the filtration system or can be used with a water pump.

Now this is where I get confused...

1) I have read that the hose diameter for the XP3 is 5/8" yet the inlet for the reactor supports a hose connection for 16/18 mm (according to the documentation). Based on the diameter differences I assume that hooking it up in-line is not possible. Am I correct?

2) If my assumption is correct then I need to get a water pump for this thing. I'm OK with that but can someone recommend a brand/model that works well with this particular reactor?

3) Is there a better reactor/pump combination that will work nicely with my current hardware?

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

The XP3 will be fine with the AM1000, I run mine on the output side of my 2026 which is 5/8 fittings btw.
I love my reactor, the tank doesn't fill up with micro bubbles like a disk would make it.

Cool, thanks for the reply! That's very helpful!

So if I understand this correctly, I would:

1) Run regular hose from the output of the filter to the water input of the reactor
2) Run CO2 hose from the CO2 regulator to the reactor
3) Get a second piece of hose to run from the output of the reactor to the spray bar

Have I got that right? Sorry for the newbie questions but I want to make sure that I have this straight so that I can get the final parts ordered within the next day or two.

You got it right! There are a few ways to mount, I hacked the rim mount and mounted is to a piece of wood under my cabinet.

I ran mine with a magnum 350 but recently hooked it to a maxijet 1200. I was running my co2 through my fx5 for a little while without the reactor but there were to many bubbles. It's working like a charm now.
