Mafia 61: The Gunslinger - Game Thread

I guess that was my plug to get people going early. Don't think I was trying to get by or give up anytime soon, quite the opposite. I hope I'm proven wrong.

Anyways, I'm looking mainly at Lab. The way he(?) responded to Ice's question was weird and they fit the profile of the person I would most expect to choose Ice at this point. Annie also has me concerned but I'm still expecting a response. More tomorrow...

I think its because he was the most dangerous of the given choices. Makes sense to make the best players choose first, while they have as little info as possible to go on.

As Mad noted in the sign up thread it will be important to grill each other in order to find links, as there are no voting trails to follow.

Why do you think they chose Ice Z???

Annie cites Mad's suggestion that we "grill each other" and asks Z why he thinks the mafia chose Ice. While this is obviously a good thing for us to do (as Mad explained to help establish some links between us)... the way Annie felt it necessary to specifically point this out himself makes me wonder why Annie bothered phrasing his post this way. Is Annie really expecting to get something on Z by "grilling" him with this particular question? Or is Annie's real motivation here to establish an appearance of being pro-town?

Trying to appear to be grilling someone this early on but then actually asking a fairly innocuous question seems a tad scummy to me. For that matter.. when Annie and I were communicating vigilantes together... he decided to vote me on Day 1 to distance the two of us from each other so the mafia wouldn't connect us. If Annie is taking that approach with this now, we should watch closely how Annie and Zsand interact with/against each other as the game goes on.

Wow! OK...so I checked in last night and saw Z's post about starting the game...I looked in GCC and there was no game yet and I didn't get back until now to check. Oh well. Anyway here's what I see so far...

Thanks for the compliments Ice but I consider you the most dangerous player in the game. Im not surprised you were chosen since odds are you will be dead within the 48 hours.

But I do think that shooting the lowest poster is a valid action if nothing better shows up.


You would be dead and then I would be stuck in the same situation. Since you listed me as a someone you believe to be a good player I would hope that you wouldnt take the chance of killing yourself then handing the reigns over to me...although the odds are better I would likely choose another innocent and die myself. Not a good move for the town.




Hmmm...Lab seems pretty confident that having the gunslinger role would be fun while everyone else seems to abhor the role. Is this because you know that you'll never be given the chance???

Then not even an hour later...

Annie...I'm very curious as to why you see me and Kash are better choices than Ice. As of now I see Ice as a wash, a dangerous player but has a reputation of being bad when good. So I wouldn't choose him first, but not scratch him off the list entirely. Since choosing the gunslinger is basically the equivalent of hitting someone just w/o it being 100%, I would likely choose a middle of the road player just for the sake of it. Theres a chance they will die and for the most part it could be considered random since its not a high profile player. My first choices would be along the lines of Zaffy or Dawg or Rich. All are skilled players but arent overly talkative. Keeping Ice or Kashta around would help me personally fit in more since they usually post more like I tend to do. Getting rid of low posters is sort of unproductive seeing as they are not a threat. I dont think picking Ice was the smartest idea, so maybe picking me or Kashta would be considered better (not the best though), but why do you think that?

The bold red statements are contradictory and take place over the course of less than an hour. The bold blue statement makes me ask the question...Pappy, why are you trying to fit in and why are you trying to make a case for why you wouldn't have picked Ice after you already said he would be a good choice?


In answering Ice's question...I think the only upside of you shooting me tonight is that Pappy would be next.


In answering Pappy's question...I think Ice was a good choice by the mafia if Kash is mafia. I would have personally chosen Kash to get her out early if possible. This puts Kash up a bit on my list but I still see Pappy sticking out like a sore thumb.

This is a tough game though and I don't envy Ice's decision at all.

Thinking on this format overnight and Ice I don't think shooting a low-poster is a good idea. The Sherriff needs to be a bit of a leader for the Town. A low or non-poster isn't going to do that, they aren't going to be reading and rereading posts or asking questions. IMO, at least for Day 1, you should target one of the loud people. If they are Mafia, that's awesome, if not at least we have someone to pick up the badge Tomorrow.

OK...so I went back and reread my post and I think that JPap is speaking hypothetically about if he were mafia. Not sure but I'd still like to hear from JPap.

Especially Kash,thats why I hit her 1st when I was the Grinch.
Jpap is pretty good at picking up evil vibes as is Zaffy and Dawg.
TRS has the uncanny esp trait.

This is a good point, Ice. And since we figure the mafia picked you as the first gunslinger because they feel you're dangerous to them.... you'd likely make the mafia very happy if you target somebody else YOU consider dangerous when taking your shot. For that reason, I'd rather see you shoot someone not on the list you just gave us... that leaves these names then as promising suspects for at least one mafia position on their team.

Even if it's a miss and we lose you in the game as a result, at least you're not putting another good mafia hunter into the next risky gunslinger position so soon.

I think before the 48 hours is up we should all post a "vote" and that way at least Ice will have the opinion of the masses to work with in his decision. I still need to hear from more players before I point at anyone in particular.

I had this thought too. Ice was a good choice for day 1 IMO. Give him more time and he'll figure you out. At first it made me think that it might imply one of the mafia teammates from the last game. Then I looked at the numbers. Besides Ice who's obviously innocent, there was myself, labrat, and zaffy. If the roles were chosen randomly, and 4/12 are mafia there's a good chance one of us is strawberry cheesecake flavored.

Just a random thought, but there's some logic there, and it seems better than nothing for a place to start. Good luck Sheriff Vanilla Ice! :thumbsup:

I'm not sure about your logic or your motive here, Jb. This would be a convenient theory to propose by someone wishing to protect either Lab Rat or Zaffy (as their mafia teammate).

Anyone sitting in a mafia role right now is apt to pick Ice as the first gunslinger... that includes the vets who've played with and against him in so many games AND noobs who would be intimidated by his skill, high participation level, and reputation in the game. For us to read a whole lot more into the mafia's pick at this stage seems a bit risky to me.
