I would guess that it's not intentional. Maybe something's going on in their life that totally prevented them from carrying through with this. So think of the possibilities... like they got injured in an auto crash and are in the hospital, a family tragedy or something too serious to be involved with the Christmas card exchange and everyday normal activities. And you never know, if something is preventing them from even being here on the forum for now....you may get a belated Christmas card mailed to you when they are able to resume their normal activities. A Christmas card in July would be fun!
