My 75 gal tank build. Lots of pics

the only tank safe paint i would use is krylon fusion

it is tried and tested by several of us on here and is 100% safe

How long would the filter have to be down for though? That would make me nervous as well. I'm so close to completing the cycle - if I have to take the filter down for a couple of days while paint dries, and have to start over... I definitely do not want to do that... I'm also sort of hoping that the hornwort and other plants will eventually help to cover the tubing and heaters... though I'm not sure that they will ever be 100% covered.

I think you could also try moving the filter tubes and heaters around to make them less visually prominent -- maybe make the filter input shorter, purely vertical, off to the side; spray bar to the side and right at the top; heaters purely horizontal and lower....

Tank is looking great though! Thanks for sharing the pics!

A quick update on the 75 gal. So far, I have the mollies stocked (7 adults - had 8, but lost one female) and a bunch of fry. I have at least two batches of fry in there. I've got 2 males - 1 mostly black, but technically I think still dalmation sailfin (which I loooove), and then one plain dalmation. Then I've got 5 females - 3 silvers (2 with the lyretails, one regular), one very light colored dalmation, and one solid black. I've also got a school of 15 red-eye tetras. Every once in a while I try to count them, and I'm fairly certain all 15 are still there, but they're SO fast and they rarely stop so it's extremely difficult to get an accurate count. I have a dozen Julii cories arriving at the LFS tomorrow. I have to call them in the AM to double check on the delivery so I can make sure to get them right after work if they arrive as scheduled. And then I've got a red-spot gold severum, and I'm debating the bolivian rams. I may skip them for now and stick with one big fish and lots of small fish. I love watching the tank as it is with all the active small fish, and I'm just not sure if there is enough room for the bolivians. Besides, having just the one big fish will make the severum more of a centerpiece which is what I wanted originally.

These pics are not the most recent - they are a couple of weeks old, pre-tetra (and I'm tossing in one of my Angel from the 46 gal), but they'll do for now. Been really busy with being back in classes, plus working 40+ hours per week and trying to keep up with the dog we adopted at Christmas (now 4 dogs in the house).

Awesome tank. I cant wait for pics of full tank when its finished. Ok off task a little but i have a pair of mystery mollies. One is Black with orange trim on its fins the other is orange with multi colored speckles all over the end of its body. If i cant find out what they are here i will make a thread on it. PLZ HELP

Can't wait to see pics of the incoming Sev. Looking good so far!

regarding you cycle i have never seen amon that high

I probably used more ammonia than necessary but I wanted to make sure that my filters could handle whatever bioload I added. Originally my goal was to add all the fish pretty much at the same time, but I ended up splitting that up, which was fine. And I had zero spikes no matter what I've added so far, so obviously something worked. :)

As far as the mystery mollies go, I really don't know. I would start a thread on it and post pics if possible. Odds are they are either a hybrid with perhaps platies or just a different mutation of molly color. I know the pet store had some "cremesicle" mollies, which were an orange and white color. Very pretty, and I would have picked up one or two females, but they all looked really unhealthy so I skipped them. I may keep my eyes peeled for one in the future to add to the tank, but we'll see.

The julii cories arrived today as scheduled and after a good drip acclimation, I added them to the tank. All seems well and I will try to post some pics this weekend.

The sev should be in next Wednesday, and at that point I am going to consider the tank fully stocked, at least for now. We'll see how it goes, but at this point I'm comfortable with the amount of fish and not really interested in pushing the limits.
