I think I am the only person I know who gets stung by a wasp in Chicago, In January!

Anyway This thing stung me in the hand.
The sting no longer hurts, and isn't swelling, but I have never seen this type of wasp. A google search makes me think this is an Australian paper wasp, but are they even found here in Chicago?

try 911 or the emergency room...

Zig, was this in your house? you might want to have your attic checked for a nest.

perhaps contact the entomology department of your local university. that's what i did when trying to find the name of a really weird looking spider.

All I know is I whacked this thing with a shoe, like I was pounding a 20 penny nail into oak, and its still alive. Good thing he's trapped in a container...

Thought it was dead, It never moved while I took its picture.
I pounded it into oblivion right after it stung me..

Looks like a common paper wasp--one of the Polistes sp. wasps, I believe. Just in case, I am not an entomologist by an stretch of the imagination. The extent of my knowledge in insects is merely local and those which are parasitic.
