Is your tank overstocked? check out kool www.aquadvisor.com

I just checked out your formula MOA. I do like it that it tries to calculate for plants. It's pretty tough to calculate for that exactly as every tank has different factors (light, CO2, depth, etc.) but yours seems to make a logical attempt at it. Very detailed.

Like someone said before it does not calculate territory of the fish and the area that certain species use, some like upper part of tank and some like middle area, some like lower part(pleco's like to hang around bottom or on the sides of glass). therefore i agree it's a fine tool but not 100% accurate.:grinyes:

I agree. Its a good starting point though1

:)--My spreadsheet does take space considerations into account (not perfectly, I admit, but it's in there). Yhbae and I basically have solutions to two different sides of the same puzzle, lol.

glad this is spurring some conversation. I use it for what is produces - a nice indicator. not a purist, we should use it as a tool, for fun, for fyi. not gospel.

I would like to commend applaud cheer ybae & moa for their efforts.

you know i thing that as long as you leave enuff space for fish to swimm and an open space at top of tank then you can put as many things in as possible. I had 3 male betta in a 40 gal tank with that methode. Here is a pic of tank now.

That method would push the boundaries of the thrive or survive? question. The truth is that you can keep a ton of fish in almost any system, but they will only be surviving. Yhbae is trying to create a system that is a bit more responsible and helps aquarists create aquarium environments in which the fish actually thrive, not just survive.

3 male betta in a 40 gallon? I dont think so. You should know better. And if those are live (not sealed) dracaena sanderiana in the tank, they will eventually die and rot th way you have them planted.

It has to be wrong, it told me..."Your tank is seriously overstocked. Unless this setup is temporary, you should consider a larger tank."

I looked at your stock, and I agree with the calculators assertion when factoring in adult fish.

Is your tank overstocked, are you setting up a tank, check this out everybody! I copied this from another member in MFK.

For my biocube it says: Your tank is seriously overstocked. Unless this setup is temporary, you should consider a larger tank.

Sounds about right, worked great! :iagree:
