Im always looking for different type filter media and wondering if anyone has ever use all natural Loofah Sponge in their canister and wether it possesses any special properties for filtration?

Im asking becasue I noticed it is carried at WalSmart for $2, a big round sponge, at least as big as a AC 110 plastic sponge. I bought one and thought I would use it in one basket to cycle my Sunsun 302 on my 244 tank until my 93 CL tanks is refurbished & refinished.

So anyone hear good, bad or ugly about this product? Off the cuff I was imagining it would be a great bio sponge and maybe water treat to lower PH, just guessing of course.

always thinking, always thinking... good for you gunner.

as long as you can verify it has no anti-mildew/anti-fungal additives you should be good to go. looks super porous and that would be a great haven for beneficial bacteria.

just had a thought, if you sewed up one end somehow you could make one heck of a pre-filter sponge out of it! the holes down the middle are perfect for filter intake tubes.

Gosh, there isn't a whole lot of info on this other then it comes from a special plant internal husk that is bleached in bleach, rinsed and sun dried. That it is mostly used for cleaning and bathing repeated use, and also as a filter with no info as to what type of filter.

There is warnings that loofah should no be shared publicly becasue skin bacteria can colonize and infest the sponge once used and my spread some skin disorders between infected infected users and non infected users.

Well looks like Ill be setting my Sunsun to cycle on the Goldie-feeder tank instead, as this product has apparently never been used as an aquarium media.

Well I like to use off names for the sake of forum liability, "you know like putting on your thinking cap before responding". :uhoh: I know Iv forgotten to do it sometimes so Ok.

So its WalSmart where I buy my filter supplies and VetSmart where I buy my fish.;)
