WOW....I have gotten stuff like that before also. I would love to have at least one short bodied FH but am scared to go through anyone selling them on a certain auction site.
The re-shipping fee is actually very common. If you look on Aquabid and even look at the policies of most reputable vendors, the sellers usually offer to refund only the cost of DOA fish sans the cost of shipping. Most sellers will offer replacements at the re-shipping expense of the buyer. I'm certainly not trying to defend the atrocious shipping job of the seller/vendor of Robert's fish -- it's disgraceful. However, I wonder if Robert checked the feedback/reviews of this particular vendor? The fact that the shipping/packaging work of this particular vendor has been established by Robert himself, and all of us here. I would think that this is a habitual method of shipping for this vendor and any decent hobbyist I would hope, would warn others through feedback or reviews online? Was research and reviews of this vendor done? Were policies and guarantees reviewed?
I would either ask for a refund (for atleast the fish) and scratch this off as a bad deal. Or, you could contact your credit company and open up a claims and possibly receive a full refund through that route. Individual experiences like these is the reason why I only buy from sellers, vendors, and companies I trust. I know such cannot be the case when you seek certain rare and hard to find specimens but c'est la vie.
