my new amazon swords leaves turning brown/dying

so had purchased a few plants from petsmart & walmart. placed 5 in discus tank, all appear doing well

1 in angel tank. the 1 in angel tank is dying. thinking of moving to my discus tank.

any clues why ? what can I do to revive? not doing anything special, reg.flourescent light that came with 20g starter set, no ferts or co2

light is on from 2-8hrs, varies, on avg 4hrs

Swords are often grown emersed, out of the water, in nurseries. Those leaves die off underwater & are replaced by slightly different looking leaves.

That's not much light on time 6-8 is a minimum usually. Swords are also fatrly heavy feeders, give it a root tab. Is it potted?

its in those plastic pots in comes in normally u see at LFS.

should I pot in another cosmo glass with gravel?

now I have to clean QT b-4 I trf to my discus tank.

It could be a nutrient deficiency. I'd recommend getting some Fluorish Root Tabs if you can and see if that helps.

Yeah, the one from those plastic pots are grown emmersed and they'll change leaves pretty soon.

it's what's considered 'the melt'. it is the plant adjusting from being grown out of water to being in water. prune and trim away all dying leaves right to the base of the plant and wait and watch for new leaves to grow (they will be a different shape and maybe even a different shade of green).

definitely get that sword some gravel to lay roots in. those little pots keep the root ball so bunched up that you could end up with the whole root system rotting away. if you don't have substrate in either tank (discus or qt) i'd get it a nice big tray or container with a sand and gravel mix and give it a root tab or two, depending on the size of the plant.
