Horror Stories Please

My story is more like the original posters. In other words it was minor.

So in an effort to get a good pic of my Betta I put a cloth over the back of the tank. Later that day I notice that the dresser the tank sits on had a lot of water on it. It turns out the cloth must have been in contact with the tank water and was pulling water out of the tank. The problem was quickly fixed but it gave me a scare.

Nothing major, but today I accidently got some aquarium water in my mouth when starting a syphon on an airline tube. And then I transfered the otos to the tank and one jumped out and fell into the aquarium stand so I had to get the flashlight and look for the poor little thing (hope he makes it).

Have had that happen...with saltwater :grinyes:

ex wife threw a glass at a 29 in the hall between the kitchen and bedroom in a fit o anger, blew out the tank like a grenade. had to put fish in tubtill i could find a new home for all them

I bought a brand new Seaclear 40 g acrylic tank last October. I spent several hours moving gravel, plants and fish from an old 20g tank. Then, I noticed some water on the floor. To my horror, the brand new acrylic tank started to crack and was leaking slowly! Spent more hours moving back everything. I got FURIOUS and called them. They eventually sent me another tank which has been perfect so far.

I had pulled the power strip out from it's safe spot to add something to it and forgot to put it back... same day my crappy hood/filter got partially plugged up from me fiddling around with it and drained out a cup or two of water dirrectly into the powerstrip. When I finally smelled the burning smell the AC adapter for the lights was at a 45 degree angle in the socket from the strip melting... Scary part was the strip was still working with water draining out of the holes for the plugs :(

My 4 tank nightmares.

1. Cat jumps on tank, tips it over, kills all the fish, poor fish (never happened).
2. Cat knoks out airstone, fish cant breath, fish die. (has happened)
3. Cat (again) jumps on tank, starts eating fish. (never happened)
4. Tanks break through table. (never happened)

One that has happened but is unlikely is that i had a rock tower in my 40 gal tall and a rock was pushed off by my black moor (know idea how) and cracked tank on the bottom, though sand/gravel. Luckily i heard the crack and saved the fish. I have a new 40 tall and no more rock towers, even if they look cool.

Worst think I've had happen was an African cichlid I bought on sale for $10 instead of $30. It jumped out of the tank during the night, heard a splash and didn't think much of it........Woke up the next morning to find the fish dead on the pants I had worn the day before. Been the last time I didn't turn on a light to make sure a fish didn't jump out. Though it was nice having a big tank in the bedroom while it lasted. Still need to find a top for that tank but not complaining since it was $100 for it plus gravel.

At work the domestic cold water line that runs to the sump that treats the incoming water got a crack in it over night, which happened to be x-mass eve, i got a call from the alarm company on x-mas day that the fish water level alarm was going off so i whent it to investing and found a cop sitting at the front door peeking in with watever flowing past his feet, i opened the door and a wave about a foot high rushed out, 6 inchs of water on the slaes floor, and about 3 feet behind all the tanks, i had to swim in 40 degree water to get to the valve to shut the flow off, and then spent the rest of x-mas day cleaning up water, only lost 3 fish though :)
