It seems all of my ads on craiglist are now responded to by people who want something else or don't even bother to read my ad. In one of my ads, I said no road trips and I got a response from three hours away.
How is a six hour round trip not a road trip?. Answer, person just took my email and responded to me to advertise something unrelated without reading my actual ad.
Several times I've pretended that they are responding to my ads and send a fitting response.
Still I need to clear out some of my stored items at my parents house and funny banter with weirdos is not going to cut it.

It's not just CL; Same thing happens here. People just don't read or have no comprehension. I don't know how many times I have seen someone ask for a shipping quote when it was clearly stated "NO SHIPPING", or responds to the ad asking for something that was sold 2-3 days before their post.

Are they asking for delivery from that far? I don't see how someone's willingness to travel TO you would be a concern of yours.

You have a good point, I guess I shouldn't assume when I post an ad the other party won't travel to me. At least when I get a response actually related to my ad.

That is just a part of craigslist. I post stuff all the time and get the advertisments or people wanting "to good" of a deal. Don't worry about it, just try to fit more information in the title.

Yeah. Some people, like myself, are willing to travel out of our way to pick stuff up, sometimes for the road trip, and sometimes because a find is that valuable to us.

And sometimes people like you drive to drop off to the recipient, to which I am greatly thankful!

If I need and want to get rid of things Im not using I sell large items on CL and on related forum sites, and small items I will sell on Ebay, garage sales, and Free Cycle. The key is if your not in the resale business and want to get rid of things, be prepared to make them as appealing as possible by cleaning them up like new, advertise with great photos and descriptions and sell them significantly below what they sell for by professional resellers. I guarantee you they will be gone.

However in this recession its hard to sell things even at below bargain prices and may not be worth selling. Im holding off selling a allot of major items waiting for the slight economic bounce recovery, which should occur before the serious depression hits.

If it smells like a spammer, you actually don't want to reply... even just being funny. All that does is give them an actual email address for more spamming later.

They try hard to make it sound like a legitimate response. Those are usually like.... "Is your item still available?".. or the exact title you used in your post gets inserted into their "form letter" text.

I've been trying on and off to sell a brand new with tags 55g All Glass tank for $75 firm and the only responses I get are from people offering me no more than $40. I always respond with how it is brand new, never used, still has tags and cost me over $100 to buy it. They seem to think that I should just give it away at a complete loss even if it is a brand new item.

But my favorite is the drum case that I tried to sell a few times - I described it completely and posted a photo...I go on about how it is a basic medium duty case and that it is not ATA rated yet the only people who write to me are writing to tell me that they need something ATA rated. Why in hell would you respond to the person whose ad clearly states that they don't have what you want just to tell them that is what you want? Do they hope I'm going to suddenly turn around and say, "Oh yeah...I can just add some reinforcement to it for you. No problem! After all, I make these cases I don't just have one that I don't need for sale...yeah...maybe I should have mentioned that I'm a manufacturer in the ad. Thanks for pointing out my error!"

Or maybe they think that because I put an ad for something on cl that perhaps I'm also volunteering my services as a distributor; or at least a liaison. Somehow it's now my duty to help someone find what it is they are looking for. I'm not just some random shmoe trying to sell one of his useless items on cl, I'm here to assist you in any way possible. Yes, no problem buddy, I'll find an ATA rated case for you. Let me talk to my people.
