Moving Crypts - Possible Melting

Wanted to get some first hand experience here. I have a small crypt wendtii (5 leaves) that has a bunch of Oto eggs. I am thinking of moving this plant to the fry tank. I don't want it to melt though.

It would probably be in there for about a week or so and then move back to the main tank.

Any thoughts on if there is a difference between the size of the crypt as it relates to melting issues? Is that too much shock for it?

It may melt, but it should survive. If it melts, pull off the melted leaves, they should grow back. once a leaf starts to melt it's usually a goner, so I normally pull 'em off right away.

IMHO otto eggs are far more valuable than a crypt anyday...

Easy for me to say, I have a couple dozen wendtii's here.

Oh I agree absolutely! This particular plant has turned into one of her favorite spots.

I've moved my c. wendtii around several times in the same 10g with no leaf melt.

Do both tanks have same substrate? I'd assume everything else is the same (temp, etc). If so, I don't think you have to worry much... But that's just from my experience.

It is a bit off from the main tank. Substrate is the same however temp and PH have been lowered.

You're most likely to get some melt moving to a different tank. I wouldn't risk it personally.

ok..decided to leave the crypt where it is. Moved a couple other plants instead.

Good idea. Sometimes I think just looking crosseyed at a crypt will scare some into a melt. :rant2:

lol...I'm trying to remember the both times that I thinned out the jungle if I had any melting. I don't recall any of the plants that I moved to a 55 melting, but I do recall losing a couple of leaves here and there from the plants that didn't get moved and just stayed in the tank.

Maybe it has something to do with the roots. I do my best to de-tangle the mess without tearing or cutting the roots. I do wind up tearing some of the smaller "hair" roots that form but none of the bigger ones.
