My worst nightmare coming true.... SNAILS

If you get assassin snails, let them do their job. Wait a couple weeks after you see the last snail then sell them or something. I still have my assassin snails, and I do not mind them. When the snails are gone they eat those little pieces of broken rock that are in every tank with a rocky bottom. I am keeping them in other tanks on standby. All my new plants go into their tank for a few days before I add them to my main tank. Freshwater puffers eat snails, but they are highly aggressive.

Did you seriously just say that assassin snails eat rock if there are no other snails to eat?

Sorry to derail, but assassin snails feed on detritus when out of snails. I used my 10th grade earth science definition while reading the articles. I am now unsure if they eat on worn away bits of gravel or old debris. I am guessing it is old debris now.

A little misinformation. I am sure that they haven't had any snails for at least a month at this point and are alive and kicking.

I don't think I would worry too much about assassin snails running out of snails (or tasty rocks) to eat. There are always more snails. :) Assassins don't eat baby snails so it's likely you will never be rid of the pest snails for good without tearing down the tank and starting over.

I hate having pond snails in my tanks...they are not tolerated. And I had no trouble avoiding them when I soaked all plants before adding them to my tanks.

I use a commercially available solution called Lime-It and I think it also kills algae on plants. But you can also use a mild bleach solution...I forget the dilution strength but alot of plant people used to use it...maybe a search would find it.
