So I received some duckweek in the mail today and well, I put into my tank and my filters seem to be reeking havoc, they are throwing them into the water and making my tank look ugly. I have a aqueon power filter 30 and an ac300. The duckwed is about 1/8"...will this problem resolve itself or was the duckweed a bad idea?

You need to create a barrier to hold them in... Connect airline tubing into a ring and anchor with thread to the side of your tank. They'll grow roots (about 1-1.5") and be easier to corral... But free flaying is just asking for a mess.

i think you might have your floaters confused. duckweed doesn't really grow roots. you're probably thinking of frogbit or dwarf water lettuce

Ok so I scrapped the duckweed. Is there a better floating plant that I dont need to seperate?
frogbit, dwarf water lettuce or (if you have high light and co2) red root floater

why co2? plants grown above water tend to get their co2 from the air.

duckweed does grow roots. [\QUOTE]
1-1 1/2 inches long as the person i quoted said? please provide pictures because this is something i'd love to see

because everyone that has true RED red root floaters that i've ever talked to has high light AND Co2

Perhaps 1.5" was an exaggeration. Checking my handy ruler, I'd say the roots were about 1-inch. My endlers liked to nibble on them. These roots are basically a single thread-like structure per plant. Nothing like water lettuce and red root floaters.

On another forum, it was suggested by a red root floater owner, that when disturbed the red would fade from his plants roots. Left alone, the red
would come back. I'm sure he had a med/high light co2 tank based on the other plants in his gorgeous 20g. I know my lfs advised most floating plants require fairly high light... In most tanks with said light, co2 is needed for the other, submerged plants.

don't worry about it. he's arguing because it's ME. if anyone else has said what I did, he would've agreed. but anywho.
