I have a very large Turquoise Severum, and recently added a small severum, a pike, a catfish, and a blood parrot. The new fish were all housed together before and eat frozen foods and live foods. I have been feeding my large cichlid Topfin Large Cichlid pellets. He doesn't seem to like these very much. He will go up and eat them and immediately spit them back out, and i end up scooping them out of the tank. He look very lost when i put in the live food and nibbled a bit at the frozen stuff. I was wondering if there is a better food out there that he would eat or if anyone has any suggestions....

Sorry this is rambly.

My cichlids love Hikari sinking cichlid pellets. Severums in particular also like veggies so you can try mixing in some blanched zucchini / sweet potato / etc..

They can eat veggies though?
I was wondering about that, and blanching is boiling isn't it?

Yes, veggies are fine -- I usually try to get organic. Blanching does mean boiling so as to soften, but I actually don't do that. I find I can get the same result by slicing and freezing. So I'll slice up a zucchini and freeze the slices. Then when I'm ready to feed, I'll rubber band a frozen slice to a small rock and drop in the tank. It then thaws in the water and makes for a yummy severum snack.

I feed nothing but various types of Hikari pellets to my cichlids along with crickets, earth worms and thawed shrimp. Giver your fish some time. When it's hungry, it'll learn to eat whatever you're feeding it.

I have Kribs that I make a mix of spinach, zuccini, garlic and shrimp. Blanch then put in a food processor and freeze. They go crazy over it.

All my fish (Malawi Peacocks, African, SA cichlids, Flowerhorns, catfish and pleco) love NLS pellets. I have tried many brand include Hikari, Tetra, Cichlid Attacks in the past, but none can compare with these New Line Spectrum pellets, a bit expensive though.
I bought them online in the 5 gallon buckets. The fish always come up to the top and fight for their meal. The pellets have never lasted for more than a few seconds.
Not too many LFS carry them though.
