Can I safely add cichlids to my current stock?

I just read the previous post "What kind of cichlid to get" and I have a more specific question that I hope someone can answer.

I am getting a 100g tank next month. I currently have a 26g with 2 angels (1 med, 1 small), 4 yoyo loaches and 1 rubbernose pleco (remains small).

I like my current fish but I would like to get some cichlids because they are so beautiful. However, I don't want to turn any of my current fish into bait.

Is it safe to add cichlids to my current stock in my new tank? Can you suggest some that wouldn't overload a 60x18x21 tank?

To get an intelligent answer you will need to be more specific. A SA/CA Cichlid like a P. motaguense will rapidly become the only fish in your tank. A group of African shell dwellers will probably be fine. And let's not forget the genera Anomalochromis and Pelvicachromis which are Africans and also rather peaceful for Cichlids.
 
Shell dwellers require a completely different setup than the rest of the fish the OP currently has...stick to the "dwarf" cichlids. I don't see any african outside something from the western part of the continent (ie. kribs) working.
 
There are a varitey of smaller SA cichlids that would do fine in your tank. Here is a list off the top of my head but your should research them prior to making any decessions.

Biotodoma sp, Guianacara sp, festivums, small geos (like orange heads, pindare, etc.), severum, dwarf pike, or any of the others listed from others above.

Probably the African Dwarf Butterfly Cichlid could work too.
