I have one of these guys in my tank, but he seems to stay under the drift wood and never swim too often, you guys have any idea why?

They are schooling fish and do a lot better in heavy current.
Most LFS in my area euthanize ID sharks that come in that are larger than 12". In the LFS I work at, my boss keeps the trade ins in his personal 30 breeders since that is all we can put them in. They all come in blind and tore up so we would have to sell them really cheap and usually the only people who buy them just take them home and cook them (seriously).
So in my area, just about every ID shark dies from premature organ failure due to being studented, euthanasia, being eaten or living out the rest of it's life blind in a 30 breeder
I doubt anyone with a tank will ever have one big enough. They need to be in ponds. I don't even know why they sell this fish, it gets so big and the only way to keep it in our homes is to stunt it's growth.
everytime i see these fish at the petstore i love how cool the neon blue on them looks, and then i get so sad at how miserable all these 4 and 5 inch guys look when theres 20 of them crammed into a teeny 20 gallon. none of the guys i ever see seem very active, they all seem so skittish and sad and hide. maybe he just wants more room?
