A Good Mid/Background Plant for a 10 Gallon?

Won't c. wendtii green get pretty tall on it's own? Or is it c. wendtii green gecko? That will grow shorter than c. wendtii green.

I've got a 10g (with c. becketti, c. willisii) and I'm thinking your tank is going to be pretty full without the added plant you're looking for...

Yeah I agree with fishycat, that's a whole lot of plants for a 10 gallon. IMO, the lotus, the Java fern and c. wendtii (unless as fishycat said, it's 'gecko') will get a lot bigger than 2 inches in diameter (I'm taking this from your diagram). A big healthy tiger lotus could fill up the 10 gallon alone.

Hmm, it doesn't say the C. wendtii green variation here (link). How tall will it get, with an estimate? A brief Google search tells me about 5 - 20 cm tall, but I don't think that's quite right. Since it's not specified in the provided link, I doubt it's the Green Gecko variety.

I'm not even sure if the plant on the right is going to be a Tiger Lotus. Is the dwarf lily bulb you buy at Walmart a Tiger Lotus? I've heard of some people saying yes, and others saying no (Nymphaea stellata, instead). If Nymphaea stellata is small enough to stay in a 10-gallon, the only change I would make to the layout would be to move the Crypt to where the ? is. This would leave an empty spot in the front, though.

What's a good foreground plant that isn't a carpet? Something maybe 4 to 6 inches high?

the nymphaea stellata, tiger lotus, and dwarf lily are pretty much one in the same afaik.

Alright, thanks.

I have another layout in my head now, but:

are there any other plants that fit my 1st post that isn't Java Fern or Corkscrew Val?

Is it a low or high tech setup. That will dictate plant choice.

DIY CO2 + ~3 wpg. I'd say high tech.

Easy plants would be nice, but not necessary.

WOW, with diy and that much light I would think you would have an algae farm.

If the tank isnt set up yet I would highly suggest dropping the coin on a pressurized co2 system, or youll be in a pickle in no time.

But If I had to pick a plant for that tank I would say Limno 'wavy".

It's a 10g, wpg doesn't really apply but dang that's a lot! That being said, I've got 2X23w CFL's on my 10g and I barely dose ferts (root tabs mostly) and have been very lazy with my Excel. Things are fine except for gsa on my wood. But I also have an interrupted photoperiod (7a-10a, 6p-10p)... I'd say with diy co2 you'd be okay, as long as you're maintaining a good fert schedule and use an interrupted photoperiod. The trouble with diy co2, is keeping a steady bubble. bsmith does make a good point about pressurized... it's a leap, but really can be worthwhile.

re: the c. wendtii, I saw a claim that it reached the top of someone's 125g tank - but honestly that's a bit of a stretch. My c. becketti is about 6" now... and I believe wendtii is considered a larger crypt. It's also wide - which is something to consider.

Dwarf Hairgrass supposedly grows around 3-4"... I'm getting some soon, and I'm hoping it stays closer to 3 than 4.
