I've been leaving my tank to cycle before getting new fishes and I just noticed some spots on my air tube..is it a disease or something? It is like a white/orange colour..and only appears on the air tube and nothing else..=(..i want to get new fish this week but I want to fix this problem first. Thanks anyone! I've attached a photo for a better description of it. I assure you it's not green or brown if it does appear that way in the photo =/..

what sort of water do you have coming out of your tap? soft, hard, liquid rock? lol.

the deposits on the air line could be some sort of bacteria that is in your tap water and the soft surface of the airline allowed the bacteria to attach and multiply.

it could be some sort of bacteria or it could be a high iron content (not too likely though, since iron makes rust coloured deposits), or it could be something else. not too sure. do you have any labs in town that you might be able to take a sample to for testing to find out exactly what it is?

edit: what are you using for cycling the tank? rotting shrimps or ammonia? if using something that is rotting, it could be proteins that are in the water and attaching themselves to the softness of the airline tube and now they are having a party, lol.

Edit: ^^^

The starting of diatoms? Not 100% sure hopefully someone who knows tunes in shortly to aid you.

Well first off, :welcome: to AC

I would take the airline out and wash it off with hot water and then put it back in the tank and see if whatever it is comes back. Before you wash it off, does it have a slimy feeling or anything?

It could be caused by your ammonia source, what's your ammonia source you're using to cycle the tank?

uhm, i bought something called a 'nutrafin cycle' and it's supposedly a biological aquarium supplement?

Unfortunately, that product was a waste of money in my experience. If its possible, you should return the product and get your money back. Also, from what I read " Bio Spira " another product that aids in cycling is The one and only that works.

How long have you been "cycling?" and How are you cycling?

and would this mean that i would need a harder air tube?..:uhoh:

No, the current air tube you have is fine. No need to upgrade.

It's only on the air tube though? If it's algae shouldn't it be on the decor or tank too? I took it out today and cleaned it. There were stains on the air tube and it smelled like mold..how can I get it completely off? Is it safe for me to still add fishes? Thanks!
