New Geo, need positive ID please

Here are few pics of the new Geo Surinamensis today after I changed from sand to pea gravel.
Why? These are called "geophagus" or "eartheaters" for a reason. They almost constantly take large mouthfuls of the substrate and sift it through their gills. A sand substrate is perfect for them. Pea gravel will tear up their mouths if they try to do this. I would highly recommend changing back.

Also, as was mentioned earlier, these are more likely G. abalios, not surinamensis. True surinames are very seldom seen, especially in stores. abalios and altifrons are pretty regularly mislabeled as surinamensis

x2 sand is a basic care requirment, I would change back as well if you want to keep them long term. The above are Geophagus Abalios based on the caudal markings, large mid lateral spot and bisect vertical barring. One of my favorite species too  they are looking awesome!

Andy is correct, G. Surinamensis is a bucket term used by importers/distributors because they are not able to ID them correctly at small sizes. Nothing is coming out of Surinam any time soon. True Geophagus Surinamensis are to my knowledge are being bred of German stock and spread around Europe in very small numbers.

x3 please go back to sand! Besides the chance that the fish might get hurt, it makes the fish more intertaining. Yesterday I watched my Orange Heads group together and work the sand over on my 150G from one end to the other, I swear they didnt miss a spot!
