CP terraium - Plants only

But why is it needed??? If you know of a reliable water source already why you need a TDS Meter for???
Just to take the guess work out of it I think. For example... there's a natural spring by my house that I think should be pure enough to work, but I've been hesitant to use it because I'm not sure. Spending the $20 or so on the meter could potentially save me $2 per week on buying distilled water at the grocery store. Also, a lot of areas have local water sources that are more pure than others... some people may be able to use tap water (or tap water cut with distilled) if it's not too contaminated.

I like to test things!
Pretty interesting that my Brita water is almost usable. I think anything below 50ppm is good to go, but 0ppm is the best.

I read that even tap water that is 90-100 ppm is safe.
My understanding here is that it largely depends on the type of plant and the environment it's in. Neps for example will tolerate harder water much better than dews. Plants that are in continually moving water (or pots that are flushed as opposed to sitting in standing water) will also be able to tolerate more TDS content.

From what I understand, hard water will develop residue on the roots of the plant (just like on a fish tank filter or whatever) and that is largely what will kill the plant, so the more it dries out between watering or spends a lot of time sitting in it, the worse it is.

I gave a friend in Boulder a couple of my baby adelaes. Despite my urging, he continued to water them with tap water for about 2 weeks. By that time, they were too far gone to be saved.

I wish I could remember where I read about all this...

You guys are all dorks lol. Im putting all plants on hold (buying plants) till I get more money. So all Ill be doing is repotting my plants and thats it. No more money spending. But when I do buy plants again ill be getting some CP's
