5G yellow shrimp tank

Well... I just spent an obscene amount of money on 6 juvie Cardinal Shrimp. I should have been patient and waited longer to watch my current guy. But I'm not patient these days. We shall see!

If all goes well, I'll have many little cardinal shrimps by next spring shipping season and anyone who wants to spend an obscene amount of money (though slightly less obscene then what I spent) on shrimps can do so, to me.

I removed my Nerites from the tank, since they quickly eat up the diatoms and algaes on the rocks, which the Cardinal shrimp like. I will also be moving my Malawas elsewhere and keeping the blue colony small, focusing on just keeping the bluest blues in with the Cardinals.

Wish me luck!

That tank varies with the weather. It's unheated. It ranges from 70-78 or so.
I may throw in a heater this winter. We let it get into the lower 60's at night. I've read they live in cool temps just fine, but they don't reproduce much.

It's good for now. This shrimps can handle a wide range of temperatures (20-28C). But not 60F (15C) for sure :)

There is no clear information about temperature and Neocaridina heteropoda breeding rate.
There is some good info about crystals. And it says that lower temperature makes egg development slower (eggs hatch period will be longer to several days) and high temperature makes eggs hatch faster. But, faster hatching leads to a high shrimplets death rate.

I guess Neocaridina has the same pattern between temperature and eggs hatching time, but I'm not sure about harm that high temperature can make to the eggs.

Wow, it was a brave action! I wish you luck.

I didn't have a success with cardinals. One of the possible obstacle was a lot of yellow shrmps in that tank. They just clean all algae out :)
It was like this: Yellow shrimps are eating algae waffles, but all over the tank.

Algae is important! Try to grow it. Do not hesitate to turn your tank into a green ugly box :) I didn't do this and it was not right.
