Could you please read this nitrate test

got a 4 on the xrite test & I still have a hard time judging the API tests...

Maybe I can snatch one of the old Xrite colorimeters at work to help!

What other methods/tests are there to measure Nitrate? There's gotta be an easier way!

There are more expensive brands but really, as I said earlier in this thread, there is a big enough difference in color between 10ppm and 40ppm and you don't really have to worry about nitrates under 40ppm. And for short term, even higher than 40ppm isn't a problem. As long as you are doing weekly 25% to 50% PWC's, filter maintenance and gravel vacuuming (with the percentage of PWC dependent on the difference between your tank parameters and your tap water baseline parameters and your bioload), you shouldn't have a problem. And if you have live plants, they will keep your nitrates at lower levels anyhow but you still need to do PWC's to remove other pollutants in the water and add some fresh water and nutrients into the tank.

On a side note, since Riverfishgirl scored a perfect score on the FM100 Hue Test, I hereby nominate her as the official AquariaCentral.com API test result reader!

Does anybody 2nd the motion?

LOL

^^Agree with statement above in red. If your nitrates read blood red...water change.

I second the motion.

Considering that RiverfishGirl scored a PERFECT score on the Xrite FM100 Color Hue Test, the original motion by GoldLenny, and the second by HappyPoet, and no objections to the resolution, it is hereby resolved that RiverfishGirl is, from this date forward, the "Official AquariaCentral.com API Test Results Reader".

Should any forum members have trouble reading their API Test Kit Results or have issues with any other color issues, please start a thread requesting an appearance by RiverfishGirl to resolve any conflict or to give you a definite opinion about the color you are having trouble with.

RiverfishGirl, you can now put "Official AquariaCentral.com API Test Results Reader" in your signature to proudly boast of your new title.

I try to check all my test results with light from a window. Almost all indoor lights will not have the full spectrum of sunlight and may influence your results.
