Honduran Red Points-

Ya they are beauties. I like my HRP's too.

My Nics just spawned for the first time and they have been together slmost 2 years sincr babies. About time LOL . Anyway, point is mom nic is doing a great job with the fry and rounding them up. Dad is lazy on guard duty but at least is not eating them. So you never know and sometimes they do get it right first time.

Subscribed! :D

If I had an extra tank, and I could do a cichlid species tank again, I would definitely choose HRPs. In fact, I'm strongly tempted to empty out my livebearer tank (Endlers and platies) and do HRPs.

I'm sure you've seen this article since it's the first Google hit:
http://www.gcca.net/fom/Archocentrus_sp_Honduran-Red-Point.htm

I love the GCCA, they always have splendid info.

I hope you get some spawns in the future and offer them up in the marketplace here :)

I did read that article! Great information.

What gets confusing is that Cryptoheros sp. 'honduran red point' and Archocentrus sp. "Honduran red Point" are used so often interchangeably and that some pictures look more like conflicts.

You should post pictures of your HRP's--I'd love to see them!
Congrats on the Nics spawn too!

So its the end of the 2nd day now and the eggs are still there :woot:.They have gotten really dark too! I'm thinking they're getting close to hatching.

Did a W/C today and mom & dad didn't care at all that I was working in the tank. I am just amazed at how mellow they are! I tried to get pics of the eggs (ie color change) but I couldn't seem to get anything in focus.

I have wrigglers

You can barely even tell.....it just looks like a wiggling egg....no more like a bouncy little egg.....no resemblance of a fish yet at all...LOL

So....so far so good ! Now its time to cover the intake tube and figure out whats gonna be on the menu to feed the little guys in the next few days.

they wont eat in till they are free swimming, right now they are living off of there yoke sack

Nice HRP--Love all the red on your male. Mine use to show some red but I haven't seen it much since the spawn. Have yours spawned?

UPDATE

The eggs look more like fry today. They at least have a little tail now that I can see. I tried to get pictures but it didn't come out that great. Its hard to get a focus on a pile of wiggles.

Heres a pic of dad standing guard. They seem to be sharing duty now. Notice that theres still a few white eggs on the right side. They never hatched....about 7 or 8 of them.

Then I realized they were moving them from the flower pot to somewhere else. I decided it was time to put the sponge over the intake on the filter because they were moving them closer that way.

Anyway I stuck my hand in there and papa BIT ME! He latched on to the top of my hand. It actually stung a bit (really it just scared me more than anything). So I guess Mr Mellow is gone and Mr Macho has arrived!

Heres a pic of him saying "just stick that hand in here again lady".

Heres where they moved them to. Stupid place if you ask me ...BUT THEY DIDN'T ...so oh well. They've placed them on the backside of the bridge on the steps. They are constantly putting them back when they fall off. I guess they'll be free swimming soon so it won't matter anyway. Oh and the honeymoon must be over too. I'm starting to see a little bickering. Papa was trying to help move them and mama didn't want him to so she kept nudge him away. He would nudge back as if to say "don't push me". She flared her gills a bit but that was about it.

So my next Q's are

How long can I leave the fry in there with them?

How long normally between spawns?

Til they spawn again and if they do get the younger ones out they will become targets for fish hate crimes..

Not sure on the time frame between spawns but these guys are CA and they breed like rabbits..
