You do also know that it is a proven fact that fish will only grow to the size of the tank you put them in. Isn't that amazing how that works. So this stocking should be fine.

Oh, good, so i can get some goldies for my 30 gal then, cool :duh:

That is such a huge tank you can have like 30 goldfish. You might want to change the water more often, like once a month. I like to take all the fish out (I put them in cups on the counter), scrub the tank out with soap so it's nice and clean, same for the filters. Don't forget to clean the rocks at the bottom, sometimes I use bleach.

Also, I like to rinse the fish under tap water...like a fishy shower. I think they like feeling clean.

Sometimes.....SOMETIMES!!!...see that's part of your problem, right there. You should always use bleach.

See what you did Ice, you should have started the game yesterday.

We are all losing it.

:lipssealedsmilie: I wonder if that's why the fish always die after I clean the tank. Should I be washing the fish with shampoo too? Of course fish only live a couple months anyway...

Fish last a couple months when you really know what you're doing. Like you with the bleach and all. I remember back before I knew what I was doing my fish would only live a couple of days or a week when I was lucky. Heck one time I brought a bag of fish home from the lfs and poured them directly into the fish bowl with the other fish and for some reason all of them ended up dying over night. Luckily I have a high powered toilet and I flushed them all down and went shopping again. It is a good thing I know what I'm doing now. The clown loach I put in my new fish bowl is doing well and I've had it for 3 days now. It used to try and jump out of the bowl but I figured out if you fill the bowl all the way to the top and put a big rock with purple string over the hole the fish can't jump out any more.

Wow, I never thought of covering the bowl with a rock. Is the purple string important? Also, how do they breathe if you fill the bowl all the way up? My fish are always breathing air at the surface of the water.

Duh...fish breathe water that's why they have gills. You need to read some books...or you could just ask the guy working at the fish counter at your local discount store. I learned a lot from asking those guys stuff. They told me the purple string is fantastic and the fish love it. Plus I use it to pick up the rock when I dump the food in for the fish. That way I can use one hand for the rock and one for the food. I have to do it quick so the fish won't jump out. They were having a sale on those rocks so I bought 2 in case one breaks. They were only $29.95...the regular price was $35.

yes shampoo, the kind for cats that keeps away fleas works best. Don't use the kind for dogs though thats just too much. But that medicine keeps away fleas and other parasites and it should keep away ick too cause thats a parasite, so wash the fish in flea meds monthly. If they do get ich put them in a very hot saltwater tank that the ick will fall right off. don't worry about salt water fish if you put a frewshwater ick fish in there, the saltwater fish live in salt so they can't get ich.
