Substrate heating?

Who has planted tanks with substrate heating? I'm Looking for the basic pros and cons.

The above sums it up pretty well. One pro that I like is that you can't them in the tank other than the wire going down.

heating the soil is more related to terrestrial seed starting/hydroponics... not necessarily aquatic gardening.

what is the actual temperature difference between tank water and substrate? Is the purpose to have the substrate warmer than the tank water?

If you really want to warm up the substrate, tape some insulating foam to the bottom of the tank -- assuming that the tank in on a stand where you have access to the bottom. For smaller/nano tanks, consider a heating mat like the ones they use for reptiles. Not so much of a headache as a substrate heater.

I look at substrate heaters the same I look at the product "cycle" both are a waste of time and money
