Maybe it's just me, but I'd want 3X filtration at least for goldies. Then again I've got 1.5X filtration as the norm on all my tanks. Anyway it's your choice, increased maintenance & water changes help, too.

Yeah, I have water-change OCD. I change 10% on Wednesday or Thursday then 40% on Saturday/Sunday.

i give my goldies 25G each so in a 55G i keep just 2 and filter the water at 15X turn over and 50% water changes 2 times a week. they grow fast and you cant over crowd them and they poop like ponies so you need massive filtration.

i have 7 fancies in a 180g tank, and i change out at least 50% per week. i run a fluval fx5, 2 fluval 4+ and a fluval 3+ on this tank. i would say stick to 2, upgrade to a 55g, possibly look at getting a 3rd. they really do poop a heck of a lot, they grow very fast given proper care, and as far as i have found out, you can never do enough water changes :grinno:
