Censorship at AC

Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances.

Just gonna say look up the term "fighting words" aka Chaplinksy V New Hampshire and you will find out just how untrue this statement is.

Would people rather rant about a store openly on this forum or risk losing the entire forum altogether?

It may not be fair, but then again it wouldn't be fair to Li (as mentioned) to foot the legal bills should someone get trigger happy and sue the site over a member's remarks about their chain or store.

I really don't think it is a hard concept to grasp.

I have a quick question im not shure if it has been answered before but how about if you want to reccomend a store to someone.

That is fine, not a problem. I believe we have a sticky just for recommending LFSs.

In any case, did you even read the linked article? The whole point is that it doesn't matter whether you're in the right or wrong. They can effectively penalize you monetarily just by bringing the case to court. Why should Li even have to be bothered with the possibility of going through any of that BS just so people can feel free to whine about perceived injustices perpetuated by big box stores?

Here is another good example:

And this is the key takeaway IMO:

But even though the forum and its members certainly seem to have a lot of potential protection from the suit, the cost and headache of defending such a suit can be unbearable. One member of ScubaBoard recently posted on a similar case involving a different scuba diving forum involved in a libel lawsuit against a diving instruction company. The site won, but was so drained by the end of the conflict that it had shut down.
