My Laetacara dorsigera pair finally graduated the grow out tank so I snapped some pics of them on their last day in this tank. :D They are now settling into the 125 gallon dwarf/fry tank. They share the 125 gallon with a Dicrossus maculatus pair and a Coyrdora sterbai school.

Cute little buggers aren't they?? Smile for the camera!! lol

They are such awesome looking fish. I picked up a trio from rachel about a month ago and can't wait for them to grow out. Mine seem rather shy though. Great looking fishies. Is that a cyst on the one in the second pic(on dorsal fin)?

Nice fishies!

Beautiful! They remind me of my curviceps, which sadly were short lived :( Love the tank they are in, very natural. Are those turkey oak leaves?

very nice.

Thanks :)

Thanks! :) It's not a cyst, its the begining of the dorsal spotting. My camera only shoots macro with flash on so it makes it look a littlte odd. Washes out colors too :(

they are cute :)

Thanks Rach! :) From the abocve it sounds like your breeding them? Any advice for a first timer? I only breed geophagus and satanoperca. No dwarfs.

Nice fishies!

Thanks Bob! :)

Thanks! :) I bought them as curviceps but are not (reddish/purple lining on the dorsal fin gives it away). By buddy Chris over on MFK helped me out on that one.

The tank is an aquaponics/riparium hybrid I did with my 13 year old son. Last year his paper was on the nitrification cycle (got an "A" BTW :D) so this year we kicked it up a notch did a project on avoiding the nitrification cycle all together. The only bio in this tank is house plants converted to aquatic use, fed by the disolved organics from the fish and natural sunlight from a window. The planted chamber is behind the 3D background. The leaves are NW hard maple. WC's on this tank are only for mineral replenishment.

^ yeah those are 0ppm nitrates.. this type of thing is not for everyone but involving/teaching your kids about the hobby is more rewarding than a "properly" planted tank any day. When my kids join sites like AC down the road, they will come with value add, experience and something to contribute to the hobby moving forward.
