Big Marimo Ball !!!

holy big ball batman, i'm jealous. :D

I had 4 of my 5 ghost shrimp hanging out cleaning/eating on the ball yesterday, but when I grabbed the camera and went to get a picture they all moved off... stupid ghost shrimp.

I want to get rid of them so I can try again with a bunch of RCS, I think my ghosts killed my RCS last time... (not sure, never found any proof) But catching them will be a huge PITA.

My LFS had two of these for sale when I went yesterday. I should've grabbed one of them. I didn't notice the price, though.

:OT:
I've kept Ghost Shrimp (Palaemonetes paludosus) with RCS and Blue Pearls, CRS/CBS, Red Clawed Macros and Sulawesi Malawa. They've never bothered anything. They are opportunistic but I've never noticed any prey instinct at all. The ones I kept with the Red Claws were all wiped out by the Red Claws however.

Well I only had 2 RCS the last time I tried them, one was stuck in the intake on my HOB filter the morning after I got them and died later that day. The second one lasted almost 3 months and turned a very nice deep red, then I just never saw her again? As I have no proof I don't know that the ghost shrimp killed her or not it could have been one of my Amano shrimp for all I know, but seeing as ghost shrimp are a mix of several different types shrimp all just labeled "ghost" it's hard to tell if you got friendly shrimp or possible cannibalistic ones?

I'll give RCS shrimp another try because I think their very cool, but I'll wait for better weather and buy some off the forums here or aquabid, I'm not paying $3.50 a pop at my LFS! I see them on aquabid and in the forums for less than $1.00 shipped when you buy 30 or more...

So it's been forever since I updated this thread. The large marimo ball is now almost 6" in diameter :D and the other smaller one is 4" diameter!! they're now in a 10gal tank with nothing but a Florida Flag fish who has been doing a good job picking the hair algae that seem to only grow on the marimo off of it (I don't feed the fish ever) I have about three more that are medium to medium-small size marimo in other tanks but they don't have the hair algae issue and I'm hoping it stays that way.
