parenthesis... (9+3) = 12

everything else is multiplication and division... so you just do it straight out...

48/2*12 = 288 EDIT: duh... or 2 gross...

DOUBLE EDIT; 7 of 9 is the correct answer to everything... dunno what niko was talking about... it's all his fault, anyway...

exactly... but somehow you're still mis-understanding. first you do what's in the parenthesis (9+3) = 12. then you write your equation down with that in it... 48/2*12 ... TO REPLACE the parenthesis. since multiplication and division hold equal weight the rest of the equation is done from left to right in the order you'd read it. sooo... 48/2 = 24 ... then you write your equation down again with what's left 24*12 = 288 -or- 12*12 + 12*12 ... ea. 12^2 = 144 = a gross ... so 2 of them is 2 gross or 288. simple, really...

I think it is 288 as well. I find it interesting that it seems to be divided in mostly age categories. Older saying 288, younger saying 2.

haha... what our parents did to "motivate" us isn't legal anymore... their generation had to work for everything... the age of instant gratification and spell check... google... every gadget has 3 calculators... government pocket padding takes focus from the real issues... if you couldn't just touch a gadget people would be lost nowadays...

btw, i'm pretty young, too. i'm 33. ;) but, yeah... i seem to just make the cutoff... almost the exception. :D

the blue skid has 9 boxes on it
the red skid has 3 boxes on it
each box has 2 rows of hats for a total of 48 hats per box

how many hats are there in total?
