Desmond has velvet D:

As soon as I started treating, Desmond showed an immediate improvement. The silver dollars are looking better ( they were starting to get a little bit lethargic) but sadly Desmond died this morning. RIP Desmond 26/12/09 - 16/4/11 :'(

At least youve tried your best!

Couldnt help wondering when was last time you added new fish/inverts/live plants/live foods to this tank? OR
experienced Ood outbreak in this tank or any other tanks recently, if any???

If none, one should wonder how Oods may have ended up in the tank??

Equally, It is hard to accept such large and supposedly healthy fish to succumb to Ood in days!

Perhaps misdiagnosed??

Anyway, hope others are OK!!

I HATE velvet. I lost almost all my BNP to it and all but one of my silver hatchets. I treated mine with something that was all natural and came in a green container I think. It says it was made for ich, and similar things like that. Velvet and ich have the same life cycle and are very similar, so it worked.

Thanks, I think it may have been his last treats i got him - 2 feeder goldfish. It definitly was velvet and although I lost my big boy, the 2 silver dollars are showing improvement. I do quarantine all feeders I buy, I keep in a 3g bucket with salt and 1/2 strength ich treatment for a day or two. I will miss Desmond and my house won't be the same without him :/

Not in any way doubting your observations but just bit skeptical for such large and scaled fish to loose battle so quickly. Large and adult fish usually yielded higher survival rates than young ones.

When qting feeder, either do full dosage or none at all as such practices will eventually diminish the effectiveness of med @ same [conc]/dosage due to possible resistances built by pathogens upon prolonged/continuous exposures to non-lethal level.

Have experienced many losses of pets but learned that Grief/pain healed much faster upon introduction of new pets, ime.:)

Hope all goes well!
