First Post!! CICHLIDS IN 55 GALLON Sorry for all the photos!!!

Nice tank.

Nice pics, the pleco seems like it is getting harassed a lot by the larger cichlids, as its fins have huge chunks missing.
Nice video too.

Hey FishBoss, Thanks for having a look. The Pleco as far as I can remember has always looked like that. The only interaction he gets with the other fish is my yellow labs use him for shelter and the Tiretrack Eel usually swims under him. None of the bigger cichlids mess with him at all.

Hey Ballyhoo, Thanks for checking out my first post.
What would you recommend when you say the lil Betta needs a real home?

Something unique is a jbj picotope, comes with a light fixture and filter for 46 bucks. Its a frameless glass minibowfront tank. I like mine for my betta

I picked up an Aqueon 5 gal bowfront set up for 40$ at petsmart. It comes with everything but the heater, but depending on the temp of your office a heater may not be needed. While they can survive in bowls you will see them really thrive in a filtered tank. His personality will change when he has a 'territory' and you will just have a happier fish.
This is my 5gal bowfront for my Betta, you can also see his color change in the week that I've had him.

Beautiful setup! The problem for me is it's at my office. I can bring in RO water weekly grab that bowl and dump it in the bathroom sink. Pretty easy and below radar for the most part. If I go much bigger it may be too much of a hassle in the office setting. Im probably misinformed, but I figured with the labyrinth, this lil guy would do fine in almost a gallon of water with frequent water changes. I have a 10 gallon filtered at home with a few fancy guppies and 2 kuhli Loaches. I could probably get away with putting him in there if I had to.

Don't quote me but I'm pretty sure that straight RO water isn't good for freshwater fish, because it lacks the necessary dissolved solids. Bettas are misunderstood in box stores, while yes they can live in little bowls doesn't mean they should. Their labrynth organ allows them, in the wild, to live in rice paddies which iirc are fairly stagnant and muddy. It doesnt allow them to live in low water volume but rather water that has low oxygen content.
With my betta I only do water changes when my params hit 0,0,>10 and because he is the only fish in there wcs on his tank aren't nearly as often on my others.
Maybe outline your plans with your boss, show him what a pretty tank it can be, and ask his/her permission.

Him with the fancy guppies may not go well, bettas tend to see any other 'flashy' fish as a threat.
