CP terrarium thread, continued

Thanks! Sheridan can take credit for the plants. The new Olympus E-5 body made a big improvement in photo quality. I haven't even tried the fancy stuff yet.

We're planning on a highlands growhouse soon. All of the highland neps will be moved over and we're looking to start stocking Heliamphora, Drosophyllum (in a separate grow area), Darlingtonia, and possibly some rare orchids. I may become a volunteer propogater, which I have no qualms about. I could always use some U. tricolor, Cephalotus, and other things to look after and grow.

I'm also going to have a lot of artwork inspired by this job. Ceramic Sarr sculptures, dried pitcher compositions (may include some bones), metal and wire sculptures. Personally I think a copper sheet metal Sarr would look awesome!

Awesome pics! Even though they are not yours:silly:
That green house sounds good. I can't wait for your CP art!

I gotta get some more utrics. I have U. graminifolia, but it has never flowered, I get a lot of stalks with empty buds but no flowers. No clue why.

Yesterday I got some new additions... 2 african violets and an orchid (thanks, Inka!!!). When I tried to put them in the rack, it was about bursting at the seams. So... being the problem solver that I am, I put another shelf on the rack. I also noticed that one of the T5 HO lights blew. After I get that replaced (hopefully tomorrow), I'll post up some pics. I have a plan in mind for basically re-doing the whole rack, but that won't happen until I get to move into my new house.

Or you can buy another rack and fill that up!

Question. I've seen people use Flourite mixed with whatever else for their neps. Well I have about 10 gallons(yes gallons) of eco-complete and about 7 gallons of flourite siting in buckets. They have been used in the aquarium. Question is, is it safe to use? Should I just rinse if off really good? I think the Flourite might have gravel mixed in as well.

Edit-
Nevermind about the eco-complete, it has way to many minerals and stuff in it. The flourite has nothing.

That actually brings up an idea I had a few days ago. These bogs I've been mucking around in have a very thick layer of clay just below the peat/mineral soil surface. I was thinking of adding a layer of clay to the bottom of my mini bog when I repot everything. The main advantage to this will be water retention. Even when clay is dry it contains about 20% water. This water only leaves once the clay has been fired. It'll make the pot a lot heavier, but thing of the benefits!

Hey all!

Holy crap Death Pony, those pics are awesome! That is probably the coolest internship imaginable...I'm jealous!

Unfortunately I've trimmed down my collection to just one tank's worth of plants. Just don't have the time for a ton of plants anymore...had to get rid of the fish as well :(

Hopefully I will have some time in the near future to snap some pics of what I have left.
