DIY passive RO generator

It is not an RO generator...it is just limiting evap while the contaminates are still in the tank...not like what an RO system does. But if it makes you happy..good deal.

Yes, because it works It makes me happy, and if it works it cant be that bad. So the only question is, since it works, then why heck are you sooo sad.

Sort of a little Crow poem I came up with just for my favorite Mod ;^D

This is an auto top-off system that uses pure evaporated water instead of RO water. I'm sure Gunner realizes the tank still needs regular water changes to control normal TDS build-up. The plants take care of the rest.

Ah finally! Someone gets it
If I had one Id strike up the band and play Stars and Stripes Forever! And yes I still do water changes every 6 to 8 weeks, becasue besides the Photos that removes all other toxins assisting nitrifying bacteria. Then my untreated Mesquite logs harbor and support de-nitrifying bacteria which consume the tanks nitrates turning them into nitrogen gas bubbles which leave the wood slowly decomposing them like a battery. After a year I have to replace the logs or the de-nitrification stops and nitrates build too quickly requiring weekly water changes again.

LETS HERE IT FOR Slappy*McFish!

This is a cousin to the solar 'stills we were taught to make to generate drinking water. Always like to see the things you come up with CWO4.

it works for you Gunner

I think the only issue may have been the title..maybe label is as evaporative condenser replenishment system? ;)
maybe RO threw them off :)

Well we all knew it was an auto-topoff. Every single reply has been "it isn't a purifying, it just refills the tank".

No one was thrown off. It was presented as a water purifier from the very beginning, not a topoff. "RO generator" is in the title. He refers to the water as "purified" multiple times. He refers to it working better then RO water. And then...

My tanks are now at about 98% natural cycling and self purifying to the point where most waterchange maintenance is now almost redundant in my highly specialized setup.

Essentially it doesn't work, and CWO4GUNNER is trying to save face by claiming it was something entirely different then what he presented it as. Its nice as a evaporation limiting system, but acting like everyone else wasn't getting it is just plain silly. The water is not purified in any way at all by the system. Maybe by the plant but not by the visqueen.

edit: Just a tip also, if you allow the Pothos to get more roots into the water you probably wouldn't need the Mesquite. The Pothos alone should be able to handle the nitrate load, it just needs more contact area with the water.

Yep, glad this was such a "helpful" discussion. Putting clear plastic ontop of a fish tank reduces water loss due to evaporation. Who woulda thunk it.
