sed03f,

I also really enjoy my Red Claw, and other Macro shrimp. Congrats with your successful population.

mela,

I would be cautious housing shrimp with a non dwarf crawdad. The larger species tend to be more aggressive (this is true with shrimp and crawdads). If you really want to do it, start with cheap shrimp. However, a crawdad can be a peaceful tank mate for a long time, then suddenly turn into the Grim Reaper.

Good luck to you both.

Tks for the info. Guess will start with some ghost shrimp from the local petco. Trying to stop some leaks in 200g acrlic tank. Making progress but slow. That way will have 3 tanks which will allow them to be seperated.
Do all of these shrimp have to have a little salt water? Sure hope not cause all I have is well water. Only put salt on my eggs.LOL

Mel,
I don't want to co-opt sed03f's thread, so I'll only answer this. If you have any more questions, PM me, or start a new thread.

I have to assume that you're referring to separating shrimp from your crayfish. If so, it's a good plan.

I'm not sure which type of shrimp you're referring to when you said, 'Do all of these shrimp have to have a little salt water?'. If you mean Ghost shrimp, they are freshwater shrimp and need no salt. If you were referring to Red Claw shrimp, no they are also freshwater shrimp.

If you were talking about shrimp that need brackish water to mature (such as Ammano, Red Nose/Rudolf, Bamboo, etc), I would recommend that you not do so, yet. It takes a large amount of time, and some money, to create the setup, and to maintain it.

Good luck
