...... my sister got a 10 gallon.. came with a bubbler gravel tank and hood

How about a heater?

I agree to avoid puffers

I agree with everybody else on getting easy hardy fish if she isn't going to be doing regular maintenance like water changes, etc. I would get guppies, platys, or danios.

Danios would not work at all, they are quite quick and would enjoy being in a nice big tank instead. CPD may work but probably not for the beginner.

How does shrimp maybe sound? A few guppies (3) and shrimp and snails, can't go wrong with that tank :)

While I agree livebearers are definitely a better choice, especially when she has a guppy already, water changes are a must anyway. Pea puffers rarely eat snails. They don't have the teeth that other puffers do, so they don't need the snails to keep them down. My dwarf puffer tank was infested with ramshorns and it didn't touch them. Pea puffers are very easy to care for and eat a wide variety of foods. Since they can fight if the tank isn't heavily planted, I'd only do one though. Either way, I'm afraid the tank may fail though if she's not ready to do the maintenance. I agree something very hardy and low maintenance is the best way to go, but I'm not suggesting the neglet of any fish.

Whiteclouds/ Danios/ Sparkling gourami?(one in the tank)/ Honey dwarf gourami(one in the tank). if she wants fish but cant keep up on schedule how about one fish with personality such as a dwarf gourami?

Okay, then she should skip danios. +1 on shrimp. But they are kind of sensitive to water parms initially IME. I would tell her to get the guppies, and RCS.

I don't think shrimp would last all that long, especially if shes not going to do regular water changes and such.

plastic guppies hanging from a mobile....no cycling..no worries....

Trade you puffers! 2/3 of mine eat blood worms while the third only eats live foods. I can't keep snails in stock lol. I'll pay shipping if you want to send any my way. :)
