amanos turning yellow or slight orange?

hi guys i have just added some amanos to my tank about a week ago and they were once 8 now i can only see about 3 or four swimming about. i have a heavily planted 20 gal with a group of community fishes composed of 4 cardinals and 12 various mollies and 5 mollie fry.

i have been battling BBA and some algae in my tank so i started Excel treatments along side some fertz for my planted tank. ever since i started dosing Excel and flourish nitrogen my shrimps seem to slowly disappear and i have notice some of them have a slightly orange or yellow line inside their body running from their brain till the end.

what could it be?

my water parameters are:

PH: 6.8
Nitrates 20 ppm
Phosphates 0ppm
Ammonia 0.25ppm.

what could it be? was it something i did and how could i prevent it.

My purpose of getting amanos was to combat the algae which just turned red today after 3 to 4 days of heavy excel dosing.
 
ic... well hopefully after i get rid of my BBA and algae i could go each on the fertz :)

Also...

Ammonia 0.25ppm.

not good. Mollies are sturdy creatures but shrimp, particularly Amanos, cannot stand any ammonia at all. Heavy duty water change schedule until this is at zero and stays there. Agreed with backing off on the ferts, they're not helping with the algae situation for starters and Amanos are said to be the best of all the shrimp at algae eradication all by their own selves. I would lay off of all ferts, let the tank stabilize, get some more amanos once the ammonia situation is cleared up and the tank is fully cycled. Then they should do better. Best of luck... :)
 
i found another yellowish orange amano, looks like its dying... or pretty much dead will pluck it out of the tank before it pollutes the water... i notice my shrimps going crazy like this when i started dosing high levels of excel to skill most of my algae on my plants now that my algae is gone so are my shrimps.

I plan to restock my 20 gal with some amanos again about 12 of them to clear the algae and keep them under control. would it be safe to say that if you keep shrimps in your planted tank you wont be able to add fertz to your planted tank? of should i just reduce my fertz to about 2x a week. and stay off the excel?

Usually when you see a shrimp turning this color....it's bad news. Not just for Amano's but other species as well. Sry. :(
 
I dose Excel and Flourish Trace according to the bottle directions in my 30g planted community tank, and my cherries are happiliy breeding and generally running amuck.
 
I think 12 amano's for a 20 gallon tank is a lot. They're a pretty good size, the females, when full grown. And they'll be hungry all the time. They are piglets when it comes to food. And they live several years. I have about half a dozen in my 72G and sometimes I think that's too many in there.

I know its bad news... :( question on my mind is what caused it though... it would be helpful to know what was the root cause so i would be able to prevent it.

Michiganman, I dose excel but 3x the dose as i was treating my tank for algae. as the algae was killing my java ferns and moss.

When i get the next batch i will just follow the directions on the back of the bottle
