You got it Seth! A most un-viperlike viper! Not a bad guess Spencer but Mambas are Elapids and they were ruled out. Keep at it, as much as I enjoy going back and forth with Seth some new players are always welcome!

wow! great pic! it looked nothing like any other ones when i looked it up, except for the dorsal pattern.

The round pupils and the shape of its head just about scream "Elapidae!". It's a little known member of a little known sub-family so I figured it would go a few rounds. Hats off to Seth for getting it when he did. I figured on one or two more clues!
 
That's a very interesting snake. I believe that's the first time I've ever seen one. Great choice!

It's found in another country on an island near Australia.
