teenagers of AC

If you're just going to sit in front of a computer all summer anyway, Mechanical Turk is a good way to get at least a little money for doing menial work over the internet. Google it :)

Living in Miami, the only horses I had ever seen were at the racetrack or at demonstrations. Ironically, where I live now is considered the "Horse Capital of the World"...

I had my first job when I turned 15, ticket taker at an amusement park. It was really fun, got to hang out with all sorts of odd people (carnies) who I thought were super crazy but I completely admired them for each doing their own thing! I seriously thought about leaving home and touring with Conklin...then my mom got cancer. Taking care of her for a couple of years (she died when I was 17) just really put things into perspective for me and I suddenly snapped out of the whole "parents suck" mindset.

Naw, toilet bullies are overrated.

Lol, I know? *Ten seconds later* Did what? (BTW, call me Siv)

I heard they dug up RB's garden, and threw the tomatoes at his house!!! Then old man Bob came runnin out (well if you can call it runnin..what with that Hobble" of his)
I'm also pretty sure AAF is crushin on Lab....Just sayin!

Wow, leave for 2 hours, look what happens to a perfectly good thread. It gets funny, with some rudeness thrown in...

I worked 10-12 hrs a day throughout the summer when I was 14. There are jobs for 14 yr olds, you just can't expect to get paid like a FTE.

I do believe it is illegal in PA for people under 16 to work, but I'm not sure about that. Back in your day though :D

Well, since you asked - - it has crossed our minds multiple times.

many mehs to you, good sira. Do you have a job? What is it? How much does it pay?

Sounds painful.

I've ever onl;y claimed to be a good fishkeeper, not good at spellings.

nope...it won't be as of now....

Understandable... but I hope you would close it if people actually started to insult each other.

What's the difference? Seriously.

Whether you're like Travis, who has pics of Justin Bieber and Lady Gaga on his wall, or rbishop, with his pics of Aunt Bea and Mrs. Howell, aren't we all just people?

Rebecca Black, not Lady Gaga. Mom said no Lady Gaga :D (BTW, I actually have a poster of the Gulf of Mexico and the oil spill, as well as one of the Titanic)

lol. this thread is funny :) this would make a way better OT conversation thread then a teen thread. i have to earn all my money for fish stuff. my parents don't pay me unless i earn it... and even then it's not much. (3 bucks for mowing our 3 acre lot!) so i've found my own means of making $. :) petsitting and babysitting. 10 bucks a day for petsitting, and 8 bucks an hour for babysitting. funny how people pay better $ to have their pets taken care of then they do their kids. :) i just spread the word that i wanna be a vet, and people respond to it. :) i kinda like having to earn all the money though. as annoying as it can be sometimes, it makes me feel like the things i buy are really mine. plus it gives me something to do while moms at work lol. lemonade stands are also good. :) thats how i bought my kitty!

Earning your own money is always better, because you apreciat it more. Having recently started earny my own fish-money (and spending it) I have a good perspective for that.

my mom is buying me one?

This entire thread deserves that photo :P

same. i think my parents are gonna let me use the 700 i have in the bank for a downpayment on a car. they let me set that thing up when i was 5, and promised i could take money out if i kept putting in money. but now i'm 13, have been putting in money for 8 years, and they still don't let me take any out!!! not cool lol.

They're doing you a world of good. IDK if I have trust funds or if they were spent getting by (hope not!) but I honestly can't say I would like to be able to take money out of them until I'm mature enough to know what I'm doing with it. You'll be able to pay for a car with the money soon enough lol. I'm 17 and I wouldn't want to have control over that kind of money yet.

so teens what do you plan on being and adults what are you in life? i plan on either being a vet, zoologist, or biologist. I've loved animals since i could walk!!

Architect, Writer, or Truck Driver. Architect: I love to build stuff, and it's a job that will always exist. Writer: I like to write, and am pretty good at it, though I have difficulties with small details. It will also be around forever. Truck Driver: It would be cool to live on the open road without needing to do a ton of manual labor (not afriad of it, but it's still harder then truckiing) and I have no real ties, so I could just have fun and enjoy myself while doing it. All the cool places, and all the not-so-cool places. They would make for good stories :)

I get my allowance every week. One time my mom was all like "I can't give you allowance this week, I have to pay bills." So I slapped her and told her "give me my money 'for I wreck you" and she paid up. Bills are stupid.

I don't know whether to  or :headshake2:

zaffy how old are you? and my parents are pretty cool most of the time. maybe bc theyre younger than most of my friends parents.

Zaffy? He's about as old as the house I'm in (around 40-80 years)

I agree 100%, it's equally sad to see welfare checks be wasted on things like luxury items, or even fish and pets, when the money SHOULD be going towards improving their quality of life while they find a job. At least when they spend it on drugs it's because they can't help themselves, the other stuff is just a joke.

A good example of sticking with a job is this: my mom had worked the same job for 10 years until recently. She was working 6 or even 7 days a week, had 60 hour work weeks, and never got paid very much for it. For sticking it out, she won 3 awards in a row, and they just gave her a job as a paralegal in return for all the work she's done. She works 9-5, 5 days a week now, and they're even paying her to go back to college and get a degree. So even if your job sucks, stick with it and you'll be rewarded.

I agree! It took me 3 months to get my current job as a C&S at Genardis/Safeway, but I stuck through the waiting and got the job because of it. I earned the job and I plan to stay in it until I have the education to get a better one. Work hard and the world works with you, that's my motto.

Here is the thing about growing up. It sucks. Working sucks. So you have two choices. Work hard, pay your taxes and don't be a burden on society. Or be a general burden on society or waste of space. If you are able bodied and minded there is no reason why you should not have a job. I worked every summer since i was 14, and co-opped my senior year of high school at my summer job i had since i was 16. Everytime i see someone on welfare that is able to work, it severely angers me. The problem with people today is that they are afraid of real "work". Actual physical work. So what im saying is, get a job and keep at it. It will only help you out as you go along in life. Dont quit a job just because its "hard" sometimes or you dont like it. That teaches you nothing. Stick it out. And when you get to a point where you move up in position at a different employer, that is what makes you a good employee. Learning from the ground up, and where you started out at makes you a better person and employee.
Eh, growin up, working, aint all bad...everything is what you make it :)
