It is extremely frustrating posting on this thread but I'll try again.

I know it's fun to have a new tank set up and buying new live stock. We have all been there. Recently I rushed my reef and lost my live stock because of it. Just remember there will still be plenty of angels, cories, discus ect available months from now when you are in a better position to get them. It's tempting to buy new things when it's right there now in front of you but it pays off to be patient.

Please pay attention to what people are telling you, they have a ton of experience and are very knowledgeable. If you don't listen to anyone else at least listen to the discus people. You have been told many times your discus are stunted yet you keep saying that YOU don't think they are. You think everything is fine and that's good enough for you. The fact is discus are not easy, they require special care. Ignoring that will result in sick/dead fish down the line.

I will admit that I have not owned discus before. I have done a ton of research on them. I originally was going to set up a tank for them but later decided I could not provide the care they needed, so I never got any.

fishboss, I'm 17 and have been given the exact same lectures you have (with different fish names, of course). And I, like you, didn't listen much. Yea, didn't end well for me, I eventually gave all the problem fish away. If I were you (and I'm not, just some advice) I would post a thread telling about all your current tanks and asking what can be done to improve/complete/fix them. Don't rule out returning the fish if you're told it's needed. You obviously care for your fish, which is why you are so defensive. You don't want to think that they may not be happy or healthy because of your actions. At least, that's what I was thinking. Anyhow, take the advice, and for what it's worth, I have 9 corys with 2 German Blue Rams and a Bolivian Ram, so sometimes rules can be bent.

I don't know much about discuss, so I can't help there, however, I can tell you that if you don't take advice it's your choice. Advice is freely given, and does not need to be taken. That bit is to everyone here who posted as though they are the know all be all of the universe and have to be obeyed. It's his choice, not yours. Now, I do recomend you listen, it's better for you, your fish, and your wallet.

Which tank will your killies be going in?

They r going in 5.5 gallon or a tote.

SO..

Where is this tiny discus right now?
Is it in a tank with other fish?
What size is the tank?
What are the water params?
what is the water temperature?

Juvenile discus require a bit of attention, for the most part you cant just dump them in a community tank with other fish.

So everything else aside, what's happening?

The baby discus is in a 20G tank, I added baby angels to make him/her more comfortable. Its been eating frozen brine shrimp. The only other tank mates are a few RCS, 3 emerald corys, and 4 julii corys. The stats...............

marineland penguin 350 bio-wheel
aqueon 10 power filter
100 watt aqueon heater
black gravel(2")

Water Temp: 84F(i can make it as high has 88, but I think 84 is good)
pH-7.0
ammonia-0.0ppm
nitrate-5ppm
nitrite-0.0ppm

using RO water with daily 35% and 50% WCs alternating each day(1 day 35% and next day 50% and so on)

doing the 50% WC today on both tanks(72 and 20, and maybe even shrimp)

everything else aside, my fish are doing well except for those future probs. you guys found.

So starting the new journal with all tank stats,

and all the fish i have.

Of the baby blue discus or the killis?

I'm taking shots soon of everything, for my 72G journal, and other tanks.

The killis are coming in Tues, or Wed.

If possible, could you stop replying here, thx. The new problem thread is currently running.

personally, I would have seen it as a sign to stop when you ran out of tanks and had to start buying rubbermaid totes. usually those are only used in emergencies or for breeding/raising fry when aesthetics don't really matter...it sounds like you were planning for a while to keep them in the tote.

Ritap, I think you have a bit of a dual personality...I picture an angel and a devil on your shoulders. I believe deep down you know what's right and have a good heart and DO care about your fish. I think you would feel bad if any of your fish died because of your not caring for them properly. That is something you can't teach. For some, they never get it, and for others it comes naturally...and it seems to me you have that trait, but you need to set aside your childish impulses and kind of humble yourself a bit, and say "Hmm, maybe I don't know as much as I thought. Maybe I haven't been doing this right." Which I think you have done, to some extent.

Here is my advice to you. When you want to buy fish - look on amazon.com and buy a penny fishkeeping book for $3.99 shipping. For $4, you'll get a book that will have some helpful info and some pics of various fish (I can recommend you some great books, here is a start http://www.wetwebmedia.com/fwsubwebindex/bksfwbrneale.htm)

Soon enough, you'll have quite a little library! A book is very helpful sometimes when you don't want to wade through tons of Google hits. It's also nice to just sit with one and be away from the computer (a book doesn't fatigue your eyes or give you poor posture).
